What is a Barcamp?

The Agile Camp Berlin is facilitated as a Barcamp, also called un-conference.

So what is a barcamp? Is there any drinking involved? Ok, let’s find out:

Barcamps became very popular the last years, organized by the community for the community. Usually people who share a common interest meet and work on topics. Meaning: Everybody can present a session, even is encouraged to do so. If there’s a topic you want to present, discuss, try out or you just want to ask the community for help: the pitching session in the morning of the barcamp gives you the opportunity to propose your topic.

All attendees are encouraged to propose a session, help with one, or otherwise contribute in some way to support the event.

After the initial pitching of sessions, all proposed sessions will be mapped to the spots and rooms. After that, the law of the two feet will apply. Law of the two feet means: if you decide that a session might be valuable for, you show this by attending it (or not). Sometimes there’s the situation that there are more proposed sessions than slots. In that case we make a quick voting, and the most popular sessions get a slot.

All sessions are open to everybody. Meet, engage, share, and be excellent to each other!

Somebody put together a little set of rules, but we might iterate on that:

1st Rule: You do talk about BarCamp.

2nd Rule: You do blog about BarCamp.

3rd Rule: If you want to present, you must write your topic and name in a presentation slot.

4th Rule: Only three word intros.

5th Rule: As many presentations at a time as facilities allow for.

6th Rule: No pre-scheduled presentations, no tourists.

7th Rule: Presentations will go on as long as they have to or until they run into another presentation slot.

8th Rule: If this is your first time at BarCamp, you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don’t really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at least ask questions and be an interactive participant.)

So, coming back to our initial question for drinks involved: well, after the sessions we are looking to organize a socialising on premise – we will keep you posted.
